Air Force Marathon Training week 10

I wish I could say that I've been so busy that I haven't been keeping up with my blog...but I've just had a pretty boring week.

We've been working on our house a bit.  Finally got an electrician in to install some new outlets for our computer area and install a few lights.  It's amazing how much of a difference a light can do.

We also finally peeled off the Winnie the Pooh border that has been in Buster's room since we moved in.  It was never my taste, but when we moved into the house we had an 18 month old who was into everything and we were both starting new jobs.  Needless to say, baby # 2 or Buster inherited the room and he's almost 6.  Buster picked a spring green/lime green color for the room.  It's very much his personality.  Bright and Excited!

New lights, bright paint and new shoes!
Air Force Training Week 10 (already?!) crap, only 8 weeks left!

Sunday- Ran the trails 13 miles.  It was a horrible run for me.  I was tired from after the first 3 miles, my legs were sore and the humidity was awful.  I was just happy to get this one on the books.

Monday- spinning

Tuesday- 4 mile at 6 am (humid)

Wednesday- 8 mile run (felt a bit better- today-still humid) I think I wore the most god awful yet so practical running outfit this am.  Normal top and bottom (aqua tank, pink shorts- then I wanted compression socks for this run, only had my purple Run Love socks, and my new bright yellow Mizuno Wave Rider 15 running shoes)  I don't care.  I could be seen on the road at least.  Shoes I have no control on the color (I guess I do, but I choose not to care when the shoes work for me)

Thursday (today)-rest.  Birthday dinner for my dh!  Happy Birthday, sweetie!

Friday- 17 miles - Longest run since 2001. I'lldoing this a day early since my running buddy can't do it this weekend.  We're going to try to do some loops around the high school so we can stop and get Nuun and refill on water.

The nice thing is after this- I'll have 2 days of rest. Yay!

How's training going for you?
I'm getting nervous about the higher mileage runs. Does it ever get easier?

Quiet life

 sun sun sun

It's been a pretty/relaxed few weeks here.  Last week we were trapped most of the time inside since the temps here in the 100s.  The kids were going stir crazy.  There is only so much time they can handle together before they are whining/picking on each other... until all the neighborhood kids show up, then it's outside time in the hose!

One of the problems, is Cub (my oldest) loves to read- he has his nose in a book from the time he wakes up and I have to take books away from him at night so he sleeps.  I love it.

But...little brother Buster hates it.  He wants Cub to play with him.  Buster has never been the kid who will sit down and play by himself.*  He was actually ripping books out of Cub's hands and demanding that Cub play with him.

*He only plays "CalvinBall" which is a very soft stress ball which he kicks around the living room and makes up points and teams- which is great but lots of running around in a small space.  Good thing- he's got amazing foot action for soccer.

My training was pretty good last week- despite the heat- some early mornings!
or earlier...

Air Force Marathon Training Week 8

Monday- Spinning class
Tuesday- muggy 4 miles at 6:30 am
Wednesday-4th of July- rest day
Thursday- 7 miles at 6 am
Friday- rest
Saturday- 15 miles!
Sunday- rest

Saturday's temperature was going to be 111 degrees, with the heat index at 117.  Super hot. I wore my new Mizuno Wave rider 15s (bright yellow-love!), new water belt, and I forgot my Garmin. What could possibly go wrong?
We started at 5 am, ran 4 miles on our own, then at 6 met up with the Up and Running group for another 6 miles, then did another 5 miles after.  15 miles run before 8:30 am.  Yay!  It was nice to break up the run as well.  The 5 am part felt completely different, running in the dark and the humidity was brutal.  6 am was actually cooler, beautiful sunrise.  7 am part - well- we were almost done- so didn't really care at that point. Thank goodness, my shoes felt great, figured out  how to get rid of the bounce in my water belt, and Carrie had her Garmin.   I just wondered how am I going to run another 11 miles on top of that.
The rest of the day was on the couch, watching the Tour de France (not looking good for Cadel this year) and hanging out in awesome compression socks!  I love having a legit reason to laz around.

Air Force Marathon Training Week 9

Wednesday- 4 miles at 6am
Thursday- Spinning class tonight
Friday- rest or 4 miles (haven't decided yet)

The Dreaded Cortisone Shot

As you probably know I've been trying to avoid getting a cortisone shot in my heel for plantar fasciitis.  Well, today was the day.  I really need to stop looking online about medical stuff since I freak myself out.  I read horror stories about how painful they are and I was dreading going and getting it.

This morning, I was flip flopping from "maybe I should cancel" to "hell with it, let's get this sucker done!".  So when it's finally time for me to go in, and I'm sitting there waiting, I was poking at my foot trying to find the most tender area and nothing- felt pretty good- really weird...it was killing me all am and now nothing.  So, when the dr came in and did the same and nothing, a bit tender but not super ouch.  Finally found my most tender spot, right in the middle, oh joy.  Before we did the shot though, I told him I really didn't want to do it and we talked about my newly found allergy to dexamethasone.  He was a bit concerned about it too.  He gave me some other options, such as a steroid pack that would require me to take a pill for a week then you have to be weaned off of it or NSAIDS-which i've been doing.  The shot would be in the same family as dexamethasone but since I only had a skin rash, the chances of something too serious probably wouldn't happen.  So....what did I chose?

Doesn't look like much, does it?
That's right, I'll already prepared to do it.  I just want to be done with PF so I can get back to running oh, and walking around work w/o pain!    So, he numbed up my foot,  took out the long needle- and the rest is history.  Actually my eyes were closed.  It wasn't as bad as I expected, he went from the bottom instead of from the side which (i read online was how must drs did it).  It was like a normal shot just longer- felt like 2 minutes but it probably was 30 seconds. Another way of explaining it would be like after being outside in the snow and having a pretty cold foot, taking off your shoes and stepping on a hypodermic needle.  Natural childbirth was worse but this wasn't fun either.  The only thing he said was that I'd have some residual pain from the needle for the next few days.  I was free to get back to running when I felt ready.  It's only been a few hours and I feel good.  Time for a run!

Edited:  It's been about 10 hrs now and I'm still feeling pretty good.  I'm kind of nursing it a bit, trying not to walk around too much. Definitely feeling like I have a bruise on the bottom of my foot, but no PF pain.  I was worried that I'd get a cortisone flair but nothing.  Thank goodness!

So today ended up being a good day after all!

1. PF pain feels better (fingers crossed)

New Mizuno Wave Rider 15 plus Chester
2. I got new running shoes! Love Mizuno Wave Riders- and love the new cranberry color! My little reward for being brave at the dr's office. Plus, I'm so sick of wearing my old ones (didn't help I never liked the pink on the old ones- I know, I shouldn't care- but after wearing them day after day to work- I hate them!) But now, I shouldn't need to wear running shoes 24/7 so red running shoes are ok.
I don't need motivation! Don't worry
3. New Runner's World in the mail!
